Zoho Mail · Complete Setup Guide

Zoho Mail is an overseas email service that focuses on privacy and an ad-free experience. Binding it to Laifaxin requires 2 steps:

StepWhich siteWhatRequired
1. Enable IMAP AccessZoho Mail (mail.zoho.com)Check IMAP Access in settingsYes
2. Generate the app-specific passwordZoho Account Center (accounts.zoho.com)Generate a 16-digit app passwordYes

→ When binding, fill the password field with the app-specific password (not your Zoho account main password).

Zoho unique point 1: Free plan can't use IMAP/SMTP

Zoho Mail Free plan does not support IMAP/SMTP external access — binding a third-party client requires a paid plan.

If you see "This account is not eligible to use this feature" when generating an app password, it's a Free plan limitation (see FAQ Q2).

Zoho unique point 2: the 2 setup steps are on 2 different sites

Don't look in the wrong place — Zoho places these 2 steps on 2 sites:

1. Server Parameters

ProtocolUseServerSSL Port
IMAPReceiveimap.zoho.com993
SMTPSendsmtp.zoho.com465

Encryption: SSL / TLS

2. Enable IMAP Access (in Zoho Mail)

Steps:

  1. Log in to Zoho Mail web
  2. Click Settings in the top-right (gear icon) → Mail Accounts
  3. Find the mailbox account to configure → check IMAP Access → click Save

Zoho Mail web - enable IMAP Access: Settings → Mail Accounts page, find the target mailbox account, check "IMAP Access" checkbox and click Save

3. Generate the App-Specific Password (in Zoho Account Center)

This step is on another site — Zoho Account Center, not Zoho Mail.

Steps:

  1. Log in to Zoho Account Center → go to Security → App passwords
  2. Click Generate New Password

Zoho Account Center - enter app passwords page: accounts.zoho.com Security → App passwords page, click "Generate New Password" button to start creating

  1. Enter an identifier name (we suggest Laifaxin) → click Generate

Zoho Account Center - name the app password: popup to enter the app password's identifier name (e.g. "Laifaxin"), click "Generate" to generate

  1. The system generates a 16-digit app passwordcopy it immediately
This password is shown only once

Once closed, it cannot be viewed again — only deleted and regenerated. Paste it into Laifaxin right away, or save to a password manager first.

Zoho Account Center - copy the app-specific password: popup shows the generated 16-digit app password, prompt that it's shown only once, copy immediately

4. Bind in Laifaxin

Go to Laifaxin email account and add the Zoho enterprise mailbox:

FieldWhat to enter
Email addressFull enterprise email, e.g. yourname@yourcompany.com
PasswordPaste the 16-digit app-specific password (NOT the main password!)
IMAP serverimap.zoho.com · Port 993 · SSL
SMTP serversmtp.zoho.com · Port 465 · SSL

Laifaxin add email - enter app password in the password field: full enterprise email in the address field, paste the 16-digit app-specific password generated in the previous step into the password field

Once verified, the mailbox status shows Normal — binding successful.

After binding, turn on mail sync + notifications (see Check New Emails).

FAQ

Q1 · Why use an "app-specific password" instead of the main password?

This is a security enhancement: app passwords give each client a unique login credential. Even if a client's password leaks, the main account stays safe, and you can revoke authorization for one app individually without affecting the others.

Q2 · What if generating the app password shows "This account is not eligible to use this feature"?

This is a Zoho Mail Free plan limitation — the Free plan does not support IMAP/SMTP external access.

Zoho Account Center - Free plan feature restriction prompt: when generating an app password, the "This account is not eligible to use this feature" prompt appears because the Free plan does not support IMAP/SMTP external access

→ Solution: upgrade to a paid plan. Zoho Mail's paid plans open up IMAP/SMTP, which is required for binding third-party clients (Laifaxin, Foxmail, etc.).

Q3 · Why are IMAP Access and the app password configured in different places?

Zoho splits the account system into two layers:

SettingWhereWhat it controls
IMAP AccessZoho Mail (mail.zoho.com)Whether this mailbox allows IMAP access
App passwordsZoho Account Center (accounts.zoho.com)Security credentials for the entire Zoho account

→ Both must be set: first enable IMAP Access in Zoho Mail, then generate the app password in Account Center.

Q4 · What if I forget / lose the app password?

Cannot be recovered, only delete and create a new one:

  1. Log in to accounts.zoho.comSecurityApp passwords
  2. Delete the old app password entry
  3. Click Generate New Password to regenerate → re-bind in Laifaxin

Q5 · Is Zoho Mail suitable for foreign trade? How many emails per day?

Worth considering among overseas mailboxes. Zoho is an internationally-oriented email service, with decent overseas delivery, privacy focus, and no ads.

But bulk sending should still go through a quality channel — sending bulk directly from the enterprise mailbox damages the company domain reputation.

Warm-up strategy (don't run outreach at the cap):

StageDaily sendNotes
Week 1 (newly bound)Start at 505–10 min interval
Weeks 2–4100–200Watch bounce rate (keep ≤ 3%)
Stable phaseUp to 300Bulk sends via quality channel
