Ali Mail (@aliyun.com) · Bind Directly With Login Password
Ali Mail = Alibaba's free personal mailbox (@aliyun.com). Binding to Laifaxin is the simplest — unlike Gmail / QQ / 163, just use your login password directly, no app-specific password needed.
According to Alibaba's official notice:
Due to a change in the registration policy for the
@aliyun.comemail service, new user registrations stop from March 26, 2025. We will continue to provide stable service to existing users — specific reopening time pending further notice.
Impact on you:
| Your Situation | Impact |
|---|---|
| ✅ Registered before 2025-03-26 | Unaffected, can continue use + bind Laifaxin |
| ❌ Not registered yet | New registration closed |
| 🤔 Want a domestic mailbox | Switch to Tencent Mail / NetEase Mail, or Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox (own domain) |

📋 Pit-Avoidance Summary
| Pit | Consequence | How to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Login password binding fails | 535 Authentication failed | Troubleshoot 3 things: ① Password correct (first web login to confirm) ② IMAP/SMTP services enabled ③ Account hit risk control |
| 🔴 IMAP/SMTP disabled | Binding fails | Go to Ali Mail web → Settings → Account → confirm IMAP/SMTP services enabled |
| 🟡 Bulk-send via Ali Mail | Risk-controlled / throttled within 24h | Personal mailboxes are for 1-on-1 only; for bulk, use a Quality Channel |
| 🟡 Skip 2-Step Verification | Password leak = main account lost | Strongly recommend enabling 2FA on Alibaba Cloud account (SMS code) for added security |
| 🟡 Forget to sync after password change | Laifaxin uses old password → send fails | After changing Ali Mail password, immediately update in Laifaxin too |
| 🟡 Don't clean client authorization records | Departed staff / old devices can still log in | Periodically check Ali Mail web → Settings → Client Authorization Records and revoke |
❓ FAQ
Q1 · Login password binding fails — what now?
Troubleshoot in order:
| Check | Action |
|---|---|
| Password correct? | First web login to confirm password works |
| IMAP/SMTP enabled? | Web → Settings → Account → check IMAP/SMTP status (on by default, but may have been manually disabled) |
| Account hit risk control? | Multiple failed logins in short time → Ali temporarily locks, wait 30 min and retry |
Q2 · Is using login password directly safe?
⚠️ Not as safe as app-specific passwords. But Ali Mail currently doesn't support an app-password mechanism — login password is the only option.
Security hardening recommendations:
| Measure | Notes |
|---|---|
| Enable 2-Step Verification (2FA) | Enable 2FA on Alibaba Cloud account backend — even password leaks require SMS code |
| Use a strong password | Upper/lower + numbers + symbols, ≥ 12 chars |
| Don't reuse passwords | Don't reuse Ali Mail password on other sites |
| Regular rotation | Change at least every 6 months |
| Audit authorization records | Periodically check Client Authorization Records, revoke unknown devices |
Q3 · How many can Ali Mail send per day?
Ali Mail's official cap isn't publicly disclosed, but we strongly discourage heavy sending:
| Stage | Daily Volume | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 🐣 Week 1 (newly bound) | Start at 50 | 5-10 min between sends, avoid risk control |
| 🐤 Weeks 2-4 | 100-200 | Watch for anomalies |
| 🦅 Stable phase | Max 300 | Don't exceed, leave safety margin |
→ Never "bulk send" at any stage! Bulk = 100% triggers risk control.
For real bulk sending, use a Quality Channel:
- ✅ Doesn't bind your Ali Mail, no risk of suspension
- ✅ ¥0.007 per email, system auto-throttles
Q4 · Do I need a VPN to send/receive Ali Mail?
❌ No. Ali Mail is a domestic service — stable and fast access from China.
Q5 · Is Ali Mail suitable for foreign-trade development?
| Scenario | Suitability | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 🤝 1-on-1 customer follow-up | ⚠️ Medium | Overseas customers trust domestic mailboxes less than Gmail / Outlook |
| 📩 Inquiry replies | ⚠️ Medium | Same as above |
| 🚀 Bulk cold emails | ❌ Not suitable | Easily lands in overseas spam |
| 📧 Multi-round auto follow-up | ❌ Not suitable | Use Smart Follow-up Plan + Quality Channel |
Foreign-trade verdict: Ali Mail is OK for domestic trade; for foreign trade, use a business mailbox (own domain) or Gmail / Outlook international mailbox.
Q6 · What's the difference vs Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox?
| Dimension | 👤 Ali Personal Mail (@aliyun.com) | 🏢 Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox (@yourcompany.com) |
|---|---|---|
| Email suffix | @aliyun.com | Own domain |
| Price | Free | Paid (annual per user) |
| Professionalism | Average | High (B2B foreign-trade recommended) |
| Admin console | None | Yes (unified management of employees' mailboxes in domain) |
| Configuration | This article | Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox Config |
💡 Learning Tips
| Stage | Tip |
|---|---|
| 🔐 Must enable 2-Step Verification | Since Ali Mail uses login password, 2FA is the last line of defense if password leaks |
| 🔑 Use a strong password | ≥ 12 chars + upper/lower + numbers + symbols, don't reuse |
| 📋 Regularly audit authorizations | Web → Settings → Client Authorization Records, revoke unknown devices |
| ⚙️ Pair with Laifaxin features | Once bound, play with Email Tracking / Templates / Smart Follow-up |
| 🚀 Bulk-send via Quality Channel | For heavy bulk don't use Ali Mail, use Quality Channel |
| 🌍 Use enterprise mailbox for foreign trade | If you're really doing foreign-trade development, use Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox or Gmail / Outlook — more suitable |

📖 About Ali Mail (@aliyun.com)
What is Ali Mail?
Ali Mail (Aliyun Mail) is the free personal email service launched by Alibaba Group in 2013. Provides TB-level storage, large attachments, email archiving, smart categorization, and more. Has a certain user base among Chinese personal users and SMBs.
📅 Important Timeline:
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2013 | Alibaba launches @aliyun.com personal mailbox |
| 2025-03-26 | Stops new user registrations (Official notice) |
| Currently | Existing users continue stable service, new registration closed (reopening time pending) |
→ New users wanting an Alibaba-branded mailbox can choose Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mailbox (paid, own domain).
Why doesn't Ali Mail need an app-specific password?
Unlike Gmail / QQ / 163 which mandate "app-specific passwords", Ali Mail still allows third-party clients to log into IMAP/SMTP directly with the login password. This is Ali Mail's security policy choice — low configuration barrier (suitable for average users), but slightly less secure than mailboxes that mandate app passwords.
Security hardening methods:
| Method | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Enable 2-Step Verification on Alibaba Cloud account | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (must do) |
| Use a strong password (no reuse) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Periodically audit client authorization records | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Change password at least once every 6 months | ⭐⭐⭐ |

Is Ali Mail suitable for foreign-trade development?
1-on-1 follow-up / inquiry replies ⚠️ Medium suitability:
- Overseas customers trust
@aliyun.comand other domestic mailboxes less than@gmail.com/@outlook.com - But for email replies (rather than active outreach), the impact is smaller
Bulk cold emails ❌ Not suitable:
- Overseas mail providers often flag domestic mailboxes as suspicious
- Ali Mail doesn't optimize specifically for international mail
- Easily lands in overseas spam
Foreign-trade verdict:
- 🤝 Light precise follow-up → Ali Mail works, but business mailbox is more professional
- 🚀 Heavy cold email → use a Quality Channel (doesn't bind Ali Mail, no risk of suspension)
- 🌐 Really doing EU/US customers → recommend Gmail / Outlook or own-domain business mailbox
