China Mobile 139 Mail (@139.com) · Enable Service + Set Client Password

China Mobile 139 Mail uses your phone number + @139.com (e.g., 13800138000@139.com). Connecting to Laifaxin takes 2 steps:

StepWhatRequired
1 Enable IMAP/SMTP service in webmailDisabled by default — turn it on at webmail [Settings → Account & Security]Yes
2 "Set" a client passwordNote: you define it, not system-generated (unlike other mailboxes)Yes

When binding, paste the client password into the password field (not your 139 login password) — otherwise it fails 100% of the time.

139 Mail quirk: you "set" the client password, not have it auto-generated

Unlike QQ / 163 / Sina where the system auto-generates a 16-char auth code, 139 Mail lets you set a client password yourself.

This means:

  • Upside: easier to remember (you chose it)
  • Risk: if you set something weak (like 123456), your account is easily breached
  • Recommendation: use a strong password + different from your login password

1. Server Settings

TypeServerSSL Port
IMAP (incoming)imap.139.com993
SMTP (outgoing)smtp.139.com465

Encryption: SSL / TLS

2. Get the Client Password

2.1 Settings → Account & Security

Sign in to 139 Mail webmail → top Settings → left Account & Security → find Mailbox Protocol Settings → ensure IMAP/SMTP service is enabled:

139 Mail · enabling protocols: under Account & Security, locate the "Mailbox Protocol Settings" section and confirm IMAP/SMTP is "Enabled"

2.2 "Set" the client password

On the same Account & Security page → find Client Password → follow the prompts to set a new password yourself:

3 key reminders:

ReminderDetail
You define itNot system-generated — type one in yourself
Use a strong password8+ chars + uppercase/lowercase + digits + symbols
Different from login passwordPrevents one leak from compromising the main account

Some accounts may require an SMS verification code for identity confirmation.

Strong password examples
  • BAD: 123456 / password / 139mail
  • BAD: same as your login password (one leak = both gone)
  • GOOD: LFx#2026@Mob / Mb!Mail#139Pwd (16 chars with letters, digits, symbols)

3. Bind in Laifaxin

Go to Laifaxin Email Accounts and add your 139 email:

FieldWhat to fill
Email addressphone-number@139.com (e.g., 13800138000@139.com)
PasswordPaste the client password (NOT the login password!)
IMAP serverimap.139.com · port 993 · SSL
SMTP serversmtp.139.com · port 465 · SSL

Laifaxin binding 139 Mail: enter phone-number@139.com + client password (not login password); status shows "Active"

After binding, turn on email sync + notifications (see Check New Emails).

Is 139 Mail good for foreign trade?

1-on-1 follow-up / inquiry replies Not recommended:

  • Overseas customers have extremely low trust in domestic carrier + numeric mailboxes like @139.com
  • Emails often land in overseas spam folders
  • Reaching out to overseas customers from 139.com = very high failure rate

Bulk cold outreach Not suitable at all:

  • Overseas mail providers reject or spam-fold them
  • Triggers anti-spam rules

Foreign-trade verdict:

  • Domestic use / personal communication → 139 Mail works (especially for China Mobile users)
  • Foreign tradeMust use Gmail / Outlook or a custom-domain enterprise mailbox
  • Bulk cold outreach → use premium channels (don't tie to 139 Mail)
