China Telecom 189 Mail (@189.cn) ยท Enable Service + Login Password
China Telecom 189 mailbox (@189.cn). Binding to Laifaxin requires 2 steps:
| Step | Content | Required |

| 1๏ธโฃ Enable IMAP/SMTP in web | Disabled by default โ must manually enable in web Settings | โ Required |
| 2๏ธโฃ Bind with login password | Use login password (189 doesn't support app passwords) | โ Required |
189 mailbox's IMAP/SMTP service is disabled by default! Filling in your login password and trying to bind will fail directly โ you must first manually enable the service in the web.
1. Server Parametersโ
| Type | Server Address | SSL Port |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ฅ IMAP (Receive) | imap.189.cn | 993 |
| ๐ค SMTP (Send) | smtp.189.cn | 465 |
Encryption: SSL / TLS
2. Enable IMAP/SMTP Serviceโ
1. Go to Web Settingsโ
Log into 189 Mail web โ top right Settings to open the settings menu.
2. Enable Serviceโ
In settings, find the IMAP/POP3/SMTP Service tab โ check IMAP/SMTP Service โ save.

3. Bind in Laifaxinโ
Go to Laifaxin Email Account and add 189 mailbox:
| Field | Fill With |
|---|---|
| Email address | your@189.cn |
| Password | โ Use login password directly (NOT app password! 189 doesn't support that) |
| IMAP server | imap.189.cn ยท port 993 ยท SSL |
| SMTP server | smtp.189.cn ยท port 465 ยท SSL |

After binding, enable email sync + notifications (see Check New Emails).
๐ Pit-Avoidance Summaryโ
| Pit | Consequence | How to Avoid |
|---|---|---|

| ๐ด Wrong login password | 535 Authentication failed | First confirm password works in 189 Mail web |
| ๐ก Bulk-send via 189 Mail | Risk-controlled / throttled within 24h | Personal mailboxes are for 1-on-1 only; for bulk, use a Quality Channel |
| ๐ก Don't use strong password | Main password leak = main account at risk (189 doesn't support app password isolation) | Use โฅ 12 char strong password + don't reuse on other sites |
| ๐ก Forget to sync after password change | Laifaxin uses old password โ send fails | After changing password, immediately update in Laifaxin too |
| ๐ก Don't periodically check login records | Won't know about unusual logins | Periodically check "Login Inquiry" records in web |
โ FAQโ
Q1 ยท Enabled IMAP/SMTP but still can't log in โ what now?โ
Troubleshoot in order:
| Check | Action |
|---|---|
| Password correct? | First web login to confirm password works |
| Service really enabled? | Go back to Settings โ IMAP/POP3/SMTP and confirm checkbox state |
| Region / network issues? | Some China Telecom regional nodes have sync delays โ retry later or switch networks |
Q2 ยท Does 189 mailbox support app-specific passwords / authorization codes?โ
โ No. As of now, 189 mailbox doesn't provide an independent authorization code mechanism for third-party clients. Third-party clients can only use the login password.
โ Security recommendation: enable SMS login + use strong password + change password regularly.
Q3 ยท How many emails can 189 Mail send per day?โ
189 Mail's official cap isn't publicly disclosed, but we strongly discourage heavy sending:
| Stage | Daily Volume | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ฃ Week 1 (newly bound) | Start at 50 | 5-10 min between sends |
| ๐ค Weeks 2-4 | 100-200 | Watch for anomalies |
| ๐ฆ Stable phase | Max 300 | Don't max out, leave safety margin |
โ Never "bulk send" at any stage! Bulk = 100% triggers risk control.
For real bulk sending, use a Quality Channel:
- โ Doesn't bind your 189 mailbox, no risk of suspension
- โ ยฅ0.007 per email, system auto-throttles
Q4 ยท Do I need a VPN to send/receive 189 mailbox?โ
โ No. 189 mailbox is a domestic service โ stable and fast access from China.
Q5 ยท Is 189 mailbox suitable for foreign-trade development?โ
| Scenario | Suitability | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ค 1-on-1 customer follow-up | โ Not recommended | Overseas customers trust @189.cn (carrier mailbox) less |
| ๐ฉ Inquiry replies | โ ๏ธ Low | Same as above |
| ๐ Bulk cold emails | โ Not suitable | Easily lands in overseas spam |
| ๐ง Multi-round auto follow-up | โ Not suitable | Use Smart Follow-up Plan + Quality Channel |
Foreign-trade verdict: 189 mailbox is mainly for domestic trade; for foreign trade, Gmail / Outlook or own-domain business mailbox is more suitable.
Q6 ยท Can 189 mailbox bind multiple clients?โ
โ Yes. As long as IMAP/SMTP is enabled, multiple clients (Laifaxin / Foxmail / Outlook, etc.) can connect simultaneously, with real-time sync across all.
